Food Packs
Planning food for a Grand Canyon or any multiday river expedition is a daunting task.  Creating a menu for up to 16 people for 14 days equals 672 meals.   That is overwhelming for sure.  Even more challenging is putting together a shopping list: how many tomatoes, how many pounds of lunch meats, how many rolls of toilet paper?  And the most challenging is repackaging bulky items and how to preserve perishables to last the duration of the expedition.

Grand River Rigs has fine-tuned this process.  Our menus and associated shopping list have been refined and honed over the past twenty-five plus years and hundreds of trips.  Grand River Rigs’ efficient shopping list alone will offset a large portion of the food pack service cost.  Everyone will have plenty to eat without a lot of leftovers.  Special diets can also be accommodated.

Grand River Rigs’ ice preparation process ensures that your expedition will enjoy fresh produce and juicy steaks on the last night of your trip of a lifetime.  First, custom fabricated food lockers with 2.5 inches of insulation are used.  Second, these food lockers are placed in our walk-in freezer and in three stages, 8 inches of water is frozen to -12 degrees.  Third, freezable food items are repackaged in double heavy duty zip lock bags to minimize space and air in the food lockers and also frozen to -12 degrees.  Last, perishables and breads are purchased and packed the day before your big day to ensure freshness and high quality.

As part of our Food Pack Service, you will get to keep the menus and associated shopping list. They will come in handy for your future multi-day river trips.  Also included is a pull list for items and food for each meal.  To help facilitate the participation of all, cooking instructions are included along with a full spice kit for the more culinary creative participants.  Give us a call.  We look forward to chatting with you about our process and menus.  We are here to help make your Grand Adventure an experience of a lifetime.
